idk Uncut Gems deserved it more than Greta Gerwig. I definitely would put Todd Phillips ahead because Todd Phillips did something out of the box and different from what he ordinarily did. Greta Gerwig usually tells really wonderful stories about women

  • Phillip Lopez

      True but I think
      A. She deserves to win
      B. They will give it to her to save face about so few women being nominated outside of acting categories

"Not alot of people are going to like that" in terms of Phillips being nominated. That's actually not true. The majority of people like it just like the majority of people loved the movie. The problem is that the people who were out to destroy this movie from day 1 are the same people that rant and rave on Twitter, which in turn are the same people that spew their propaganda filled narrative. The truth of the matter, no matter how much people bitch and cry and moan about it, joker is a brilliant film that has now proven itself to be a critical darling along with a commercial darling. 11 bafta nominations, 11 Oscars, and it won the golden lion at Venice. This film is a proven smash it.

Nah people aren’t out of hate it. To say all people who have a problem with the movie are just out to hate it is simply delusional. It’s a 7/10 not the 1000/10 all the people are saying. I think when people call it a masterpiece that’s what ticks people off. Because there are other movies and people who think this is original or different or ‘daring’ just haven’t seen enough movies. That’s the simple fact of the matter. The only reason it’s got al these scars is because it’s a CBM that’s different. It’s just a regular film which has a Batman sticker slapped on to it. It’s great people enjoyed it but to say that the people who think it doesn’t deserve the noms it got are all just ‘haters’ and are ‘out to destroy the movie from day 1’ is, again, delusional. To nominate Todd Phillips over grey gerwig, the Safdie brothers, Robert Eggers, lulu Wang, Taika Waititi, Noah baumbach Wong with many others, is just criminal. Joker deserves a few of the noms it got just not all of them.

@Kev Low Really? He only proved my statement about huge bias towards J.Lo. They didn't even watch Hustlers and his words "J.Lo and Adam Sandler can't be taken seriously" speak by themselves. They judge CELEBRITIES AND THEIR REPUTATION, not actual acting. They didn't vote for Awkwafina because of similar reason. These so-called "academics" should be fired ASAP. Jonansson didn't even manage to get German accent right in Jojo Rabbit and her acting was mediocre at best but she's still nominated lol

I am completely happy with joker. This is a movie we will all remember, idk why people are criticizing this movie. This isn’t a black panther or bohemian rhapsody. This is a great film, honestly I would choose this or parasite for best picture. They both talked about serious things that are happening today. Bon or Todd should win best Director. Todd took a big risk with this film. A movie with just a villain and it’s backstory. You don’t normally see those, but he did it and added in real life social problems. I say give joker the best picture award if not then parasite

    • halo
      halo 10 дней назад

@Dochow is bringing up tone and setting nonsense? They're literally identical. And I'm not even the only one saying it. A lot of film critics says it as well. I've watched taxi driver and it just reminded me too much about it. I'm literally stating a fact that the character Arthur in a way, undergoes the same situation Travis experienced. Both are loners and have a lot of issues in their society, but eventually came out as an anti-hero and anti-villain if you please. Both characters ended up getting chased and arrested by the police. Both also mimes suicide by their finger. It's just that Joker adds a unique mental illness and raises a deceptive-reality situation to the audience. That's one of the aspect I loved Joker. I said that Joker still stand on its own as a Joker film. But it just reminded me too much of taxi driver. And I never reach too much trying to match scenes, it's literally the first thing that came up to me after watching Joker. A lot of other critics and reviewers had a lot more to their table, saying that the date scene is also a rip-off. And the subway scene is a rip-off of another movie that I forgot the name. Or that the title uses the same font from Citizen Kane. At least I'm not saying any of that. I'm saying what is confirmed only because Todd said that he got highly inspired by Taxi Driver and King of Comedy. Not a bad thing, but it could still be a lot more interseting. It could show more of Arthur's intelligent like for example. I still like Joker, but not to the point that I'd be worshipping it most people do

    • Doc
      Doc 10 дней назад +1

@halo no, joker isn't too much like taxi driver. I get so tired of hearing people say this. Sure, it was a major influence but you're reaching so much trying to match scenes together. Joker is a completely original take inside a genre that it has subsequently redefined. And for you to bring up tone and setting as an example of why they're too much alike is just complete and utter nonsense. And I also suggest going and reading the screenplay if you want to get a handle on just how brilliant the script really was. As for your comment about the improvised dance scenes as a detractor of the overall worthiness of the film, I say to you: huh?!?! How does that even make sense?

    • MarcTheFilmmaker
      MarcTheFilmmaker 11 дней назад +1

halo that’s when you are wrong when you said “ he/she ends up successful in killing his/her enemy” joker necessarily didn’t have enemy’s he had inspirations who fucked him over. He was against the atmosphere in society, joker dealt with child hood trauma, isolation, gun violence, and mentally ill all in one movie and it’s sends signals and warnings about who we fuck over. Todd captured it beautifully, now for a comic book movie this is just purely unique in its own way. Taxi didn’t have a scene where a mentally ill clown goes into an interview and “tells a joke” (btw that scene was beautifully written) and shoots him right in the eye. If that’s not an accomplishment then idk what is. Which is why he earned his spot on the director category. Also, another reason why the Oscars nominated joker in so many categories is because they understood that message. Joker can win best picture but is it? Probably not I would still give it too parasite that film was just perfect in every way

    • halo
      halo 11 дней назад

@MarcTheFilmmaker Well, OUaTiH has too much easter eggs about 60's film. But it doesn't mean the whole tone, plot value, and purpose of the movie was taken from those 60's film. But I would actually say this movie is one of his weaker films. As for Irishman, Scorcese at some point have been working on the idea a longggg time ago. But due to financial reasons, it was realased in 2019. I'd agree that tooking inspiration from other works is actually good. But Joker is just.. Too much. Even look to me almost as a rip-off. It's still a great film and it is still a 'Joker' film. But change something different quite a bit. Maybe show Arthur's intelligent, and dont make it too too predictible. You kinna know that the plot's pretty much about the old school bullied, innocent person seeking vengeance towards the society, then he/she went taxi driver style and become a popular face towards minority. He/she ends up successful in killing his/her enemy. Yep, very reminiscence to me. Todd did a good job, but not to the point that he should win a director award. He needs to write something fresh, original, and also deeply inspiring like the Joker, to convince me he's worthy of the title. Just like how I prefer Pulp Fiction way more than OUaTiH. It's unique and never do anyone have seen something like that before. That's why Pulp fiction is highly praised. And I want more of that from Todd

    • MarcTheFilmmaker
      MarcTheFilmmaker 11 дней назад +1

halo joker was snubbed for production design. So they put costume design in. Being inspired by a film isn’t a flaw. It’s how you executed and Irishman is way too similar to other mafia films Scorsese already made. OUAT was influenced by 60’s films for god sakes. Too much of it at some point. The real original film is parasite. So if you wanna disagree about joker winning then the winner can definitely 100% be parasite

The Irishman is a very good movie. Scorsese has just made better films in my opinion, and I enjoyed a lot of other films from 2019 more. I can specifically claim that it’s costume and cinematography noms were not deserving because they were quite basic. Production design is okay...I don’t agree with visual effects. Scorsese is a legend and he can’t do wrong, but this didn’t feel that new from him which is why I wouldn’t have nominated him for director. Hell I might’ve even taken Tarantino out instead. Still very deserving of best picture, I just think the academy was excited for a new Scorsese film they nominated it wherever they could. La La Land is one of my favorite movies of all time, and it got nominated for so much of its basic shit like costumes and production design that I don’t agree with at all. Thanks for watching the video and for commenting tho!
